MADD: The Power of Parents

Friday, October 30, 2009

As a kid/teenager, I remember seeing and hearing about MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) ALOT. Don't you?

We all know the power that parents hold, specifically Mothers. For some reason (I think it's Mama Bear Syndrome), we influence laws, organize rallies, and make CHANGE if it's something that we believe in.

MADD launched a new website a couple of days ago: The Power of Parents, which has information about various drunk driving laws through the United States, statistics, Victim Services (which also features a chat room!), and an online community. You can also view Parent Talk videos and read the Parent Blog while you're ther.

It's a sad reality, but underage drinking is a problem. By keeping the lines of communication open with your children, you are helping to prevent them from drinking. We must also work together as adults, to make sure that the underage drinking laws are kept intact and are punished to the fullest extent of the law.

How can you help?

Volunteer, donate, and take the pledge. Visit The Power of Parents and BE INFORMED. Use the tools they have there to communicate with your kids - your friends - your kids' friends - everyone you can. There's a war out there, Moms, and we're losing. Too many kids are dying by drunk drivers. Don't be the victim.

You can also visit the MADD Blog, follow MADD on Twitter, and Become a Fan of The Power of Parents on Facebook.

Something else that's cool? You can take the Underage Alcohol Safety Quiz and find out how at risk your teens are to drink while they're underage.

Not to brag or nothing, but here's my score:

*Of course, he just turned 13 so we'll see what happens in the next few years. I'm confident in our relationship and how we communicate.

Be safe out there, people.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of MADD. A donation was made to MADD in my name to thank me for taking the time to participate.
