Review: Uncle Ben's Whole Grain White Rice

Monday, May 24, 2010

I'm a big fan of rice - I always have been. It's good for you and it's so versatile! It can go with any meal and you can mix it with all types of different flavors. Yum!

I literally like all types of rice - Wild Rice, Brown Rice, and this rice that I didn't even know existed: Whole Grain White Rice from Uncle Ben's. It's a great source of fiber, it has 45g Whole Grains per serving, it's low fat, cholesterol free, and there are no preservatives, artificial colors, or MSG. All of those items right there mean that this rice is my new favorite!

We all know how hard it is to get our kids to eat whole grains, and with the ever-prevalent array of processed foods out there that are no good for us, let alone our still-growing kids, it's getting even harder to find food that truly is good for us.

The rice comes in a variety of flavors from traditional Long Grain to Chicken, Broccoli Cheddar, Taco Style and Sweet Tomato. The best part? It cooks in 10 minutes!

I love this rice and so did my kids! I use fat-free chicken broth in place of water, and I add some salt and pepper for some taste, and the rice is tasty and still good for us! We love it and the kids didn't know it was good for them!

Review and Giveaway: Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel and Fresh Brush™ 2 in 1 starter kit

Cleaning is a job that most of us don't want to do - especially toilets. Personally, it's not my idea of fun but it's gotta be done. I like products that save me time and money.

Scrubbing Bubbles products have long been a favorite in my home, and I grew up with Scrubbing Bubbles. I just did a review for Scrubbing Bubbles Extend-A-Clean Power Sprayer, which I love. I knew that I would love Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel and Fresh Brush™ 2 in 1 starter kit just the same.

I was sent two boxes: one of the Toilet cleaning gel and one of the Fresh Brush starter kit. I've bought the Fresh Brush in the past, but I went ahead and cleaned the toilets anyway, just to prep them for the toilet cleaning gel. The gel was easy to use (just follow the directions on the box) - but basically you just "stamp" some of the gel into the toilet bowl and let it do it's job. It works for about a week and dissolves away on its own.

What I really liked about this gel was the scent. I could smell it anytime I was doing my business, and it was a pleasant, fresh smell. I really like it!

Scrubbing Bubbles® Fresh Brush® 2-in-1 is awesome too - it comes with a handy handle that you can hang on the toilet. The fresh pads can be flushed away after use and are great for quick touch-ups. The Fresh Brush® MAX scrubbers are great on stains and can easily be popped in the trash when you're done.

I'm all about making life more simple, and these two products have it.

Right now, you can save up to $7 on Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush and Toilet Cleaning Gel at Right At Home.

One luck winner will win the same items I received - a box of each of the Fresh Brush and the Toilet Cleaning Gel.

During this 9-week festival, 328 Regal Cinemas, United Artists and Edwards Theatres will offer selected G or PG rated movies for free on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10am.
Participating theatres offer free film titles such as Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Monsters vs Aliens and Tale of Despereaux. The Regal Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity established by Regal Entertainment Group, provides monetary grants to local Boys & Girls Clubs for transportation to bring their kids to theatres to enjoy the free movies.

"Now in our twentieth year, Regal’s Free Family Film Festival has always provided fun, family entertainment at no cost to our moviegoers across the country. A trip to the movies is the perfect activity for families to enjoy throughout the summer months,” stated Dick Westerling, Regal Entertainment Group Senior Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. "We are certainly proud of our partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The Mornings at the Movies program provides us the opportunity to support these kids through grants for transportation to attend the Regal Free Family Film Festival.”

A list of participating locations, film titles and local dates of operation are available online: www.regmovies.com/nowshowing/familyfilmfestivalschedule.aspx. In addition to the free films, many theatres will have other exciting events, displays and demonstrations during the festival days.

CAMP HILL, PA (May 20, 2010) – Rite Aid is introducing its new private brand baby care line Tugaboos, with Tugaboos diapers now available at all Rite Aid stores. Tugaboos compare in quality to the national brands but are priced much lower.

The new baby care line is part of Rite Aid's plan to revamp its entire private brand program with a new look, new brands and additional offerings to meet the needs of today’s value-driven consumer.

Tugaboos uses new diaper design technology for additional absorbency and leakage protection and offers a money-back customer satisfaction guarantee right on the package. Tugaboos includes jumbo and overnight diapers and trainers and are hypoallergenic. Creams, lotions and wipes are among the products that will be added to the line of Tugaboos baby care products.

Parents and caretakers can watch short informational videos about Tugaboos-Premium Diapers and Tugaboos Training Pants on Rite Aid's Video Values online savings program site at www.riteaid.com, earning $1 off coupons. Poll results: subscribing to blogs

I recently put up a poll in my right sidebar, regarding subscribing to blogs. I asked my readers if you preferred a full feed, a partial feed, if it doesn't matter about the feed because you visit the blog daily, or you don't subscribe to blogs.

First, I want to share why I created this poll on blog subscription preferences because even though I'm a blogger, I began as a blog reader. I started reading blogs about 3 years ago when I got into entering sweepstakes. I began subscribing to blog to get extra entries into the giveaways, which usually offer 3 extra entries for each giveaway (depending on whose blog you are visiting).

I personally keep my feed as the full feed, even though I've seen people talking about changing this because people steal their content. I also keep my feed as the full feed because, even though I love to read alot of blogs, ideally, I don't have time in each day to visit every single blog that I love. Matter of fact, even if I set aside 2 hours a day each day of the week, I still wouldn't visit every blog I love. I read a wide variety of blogs, from crafting blogs to review blogs to blogs that teach you about blogging.

Recently, I began unsubscribing from feeds that have switched to partial feeds or a feed that just lists the headline of the article. I figure that I just don't have enough time to click on all of the links that I get in my emails. (I get upwards of 200-300 emails a day.)

The results of my poll are as follows:

26 of you voted

  • 13 people prefer a full feed
  • 9 prefer a partial feed
  • 3 say it didn't matter because they visit the blog daily
  • 1 person said they don't subscribe to blogs
I appreciate all of you who took time out to vote. I had changed the end date twice because I forgot that the poll ended and I couldn't see the results! I wish that Google would change how Blogger polls behave, so that I would have been able to retrieve my data without extending the poll, so maybe they'll see this and update the polls for us, someday.

For now, I'm going to keep my feed as a full feed. I like traffic just as much as the next blogger but I also like to keep my readers happy. If you see a post that catches your eye, you will come visit. And thank you for continuing to come visit A Simple Kinda Life!

And I'm not worried about anyone stealing my content, because once I find out about it, I will utilize my rights and prosecute the plagiarizer to the fullest extent of the law!

Review: Unilever Deodorant

I've been a mom for almost half of my life. (Crazy, isn't it?!) It's funny how in this "job", as in any other job, you learn with experience. My oldest children are teens already - 15 going on 16, and 13 going on 14. Then there's my "baby", who's 11.

I think the first time I bought her deodorant was when she was 8. I'm not sure if it was because she had some odor, or just because I had learned by doing - whatever the case may be, she's had deodorant for awhile now.

We've tried pretty much every deodorant out there. I'm partial to Degree deodorant, and that's the kind I prefer for her too.

Mom Central sent us some Degree Girl deodorant in the Friends Forever scent, which I hadn't bought for her previously. I had wanted to, but we have a semi-stockpile of deodorant around here! She was excited to get to try this kind (finally!) and loves it! She loves the scent and how it peforms.

Screenshot of Don't Fret The Sweat, where you can find the perfect deodorant for your child.

You may wonder how I know that she likes how it performs. Just because she's not an adult doesn't mean that she doesn't know when a deodorant is not working for her! She has complained to me in the past about other deodorants not keeping her dry, that melt on her, etc.

It's hard enough to be a kid - especially a tween - so I'm doing what I can to make her life easier for her. Do you remember what it was like to be a kid? What about when you were coming into puberty and your body was changing? I remember not being able to do anything - shaving, wear deodorant, nothing - until my mom said I could. It was frustrating and embarrassing! I definitely am not going to do that to my children!

I wish that Don't Fret the Sweat was around back then, because I would have pointed my mom to read the Expert Advice on the site. There's one article that stood out to me the most while I was browsing the advice column, and that's "Let's Talk About Tweens" by Rosalind Wiseman. The article talks about how important it is to give your child guidance, and how to help them gain confidence. It's a great article, and I hope that you'll take a few minutes to check it out.

Don't forget to grab your coupons for deodorant, while you're there!

Disclaimer: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Unilever and received the items necessary to facilitate my review. In addition, Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Review: SymptomPak

You can plan your summer vacation down to the absolute ultimate detail, but you can’t plan for the “uh, ohs.”   A cold falls squarely into this category. Maybe you picked it up on the plane, maybe a guest in your hotel gave it to you. However you caught it, what do you do about it on your vacation (your hard-earned, once-a-year vacation), especially if you’re in a remote locale?
You can handle most aspects of a cold or cough, or even an allergy with a portable kit called SymptomPak™.  SymptomPak™ is like a first aid kit for your cold.  It is a small, blue box that features five of the ingredients most often needed for colds, cough, fever, and flu. The individual ingredients come in separate bottles, rather than in one multi-symptom pill or liquid. You can treat only the symptoms you have, instead of taking doses of medication for symptoms you don’t have, which might render you sleepy or groggy.
SymptomPak™ makes having a cold even more manageable by including a small pill box in the “Pak”, so you can take your chosen medication(s) with you when you go sight-seeing or helicoptering around a volcano, for instance.  Each bottle in the “Pak” contains 30 tablets, which should get you, or anyone who is traveling with you, through your vacation much more comfortably and safely.  It’s better to take what you’re familiar with than taking drugs in a foreign country where you might not recognize the ingredients.

So far, I haven't gotten to use anything in this set besides the Acetaminophen since I ran out of something for headaches but I'm looking forward to using this pack when we go on vacation! It's convenient and small!

SymptomPak™ is available on leading internet sites such as Amazon.com, Drugstore.com, Target.com, Rite Aid.com and Health Warehouse.com. For more information visit www.symptompak.com.

Review and Giveaway: Scrubbing Bubbles® Extend-A-Clean™ Power Sprayer

I've been a Scrubbing Bubbles fan for a LONG TIME, probably way back when I was young, before I was cleaning my own home. I remember my mom using the bathroom cleaner when I was younger and it worked so well, with so little effort!

I was recently contacted to do a review of Scrubbing Bubbles® new Extend-A-Clean™ Power Sprayer. The sponsor sent me a "Minimize Morning Madness" gift basket with Extend-A-Clean Power Sprayer, Starbucks Via, mug, travel alarm clock and AquaNotes in the basket.(pictured below)

This basket is a great gift and a huge THANK YOU to the sponsors of this review and giveaway! My mornings truly are hectic and these items are helping me out more than I could have imagined! As a single mom who is currently out of work, I have to wake the kids up in the morning and take them to school. My son gets up on his own but my daughter is an entirely different story. Some days I have to keep telling her to get ready for 30 minutes! Now she's the proud owner of the alarm clock that I received!

We all know that cleaning the shower is not fun. Some days it's downright a pain in the rear. That's why I love Extend-A-Clean Power Sprayer. I have the last person to shower in the morning (or night) spray down the shower and shower curtain with this product, so I don't have to work as hard when cleaning day comes. It's got an "invisible grime barrier" that activates each time the shower surface (or shower curtain) gets wet, and it works for up to 4 days.

I love that Extend-A-Clean Power Sprayer is so versatile: I can use it on my tub, shower, glazed ceramic tile, stainless steel, chrome fixtures, fiberglass, vinyl, and glazed porcelain.

Right now, you can save $5 on any Scrubbing Bubbles Power Sprayer Starter. (Click the link to print the coupon at Right At Home.)

GIVEAWAY

One of you will win the same gift basket that I received! To enter to win, head over to the Scrubbing Bubbles
site and tell me what you like best about this product! (Required entry)

For extra entries, view my Giveaway Rules, updated 2/2/10.

Here's a custom tweet you can use: Review and Giveaway: Scrubbing Bubbles® Extend-A-Clean™ Power Sprayer: http://bit.ly/9eZMga ends 6/3 pls RT (just copy and paste)

This giveaway will end on  June 3rd. Winner will be contacted via email, so please be sure to leave your email address in your comment.

Thanks for entering! Good luck!
