Those pesky mosquitoes will be coming out soon

Thursday, April 29, 2010

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Mosquito Magnet. All opinions are 100% mine.

Here in Maryland, since we're so close to the Chesapeake Bay, the mosquitoes can be pretty bad - from Spring to Summer - watch out! (I'm not looking forward to it at all!)

One time of year when I really notice them is 4th of July and that's because we're out all day enjoying a carnival that comes in town, and the town where the fireworks are held is right on the water. At night, you get so bit up that it will drive you crazy!

I stumbled on a mosquito magnet review and was thinking that would be the perfect product to have - especially since Lyme disease is also pretty high in our area. I even know a couple of people who have it, so it's not far from my mind in the warm months! We've even had West Nile here and they've sprayed for mosquitoes quite regularly each year for a long time! And since I'm pretty paranoid, I'd rather stay in than risk getting either of those nasty diseases!

Everyone who posted a review on the mosquito magnet sung it's praises so I'm sure it's something I am going to have to look into further. I'm not one who likes to get bitten up by mosquitoes and I must be really sweet because I always have tons of bite marks on me! I would be more likely to hang out outside and go camping and hiking if I had a product like this.

Wild animals are sometimes a nuisance

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Woodstream. All opinions are 100% mine.

Wild animals can be a nuisance, getting in your trash, eating your birdseed, and even sneaking into your garden to eat your fruits and vegetables. I haven't personally had a problems with wild animals in years, mostly because I don't live in a rural area. (Or is it maybe because I just don't notice?) Either way, if I were to have problems with wild animals such as raccoons getting into my trash, first of all I'd have to call my local humane society to see what I should do. I don't know if they would recommend trapping it or if they would send someone to get it. I would definitely want the animal to be treated fairly and humanely, because when I was growing up my parents had neighbors who had two pet raccoons and I used to be around them quite often.

I imagine that if the Humane Society recommended that I should trap the animal and release it later, I would use a Havahart Easy Set Small Animal Trap or a Havahart Easy Set Large Animal Trap, after looking up Animal Trapping Tips, because I honestly have no clue!

To be honest, I don't want anything to happen to any animals so trapping them and relocating them to a more suitable area would be the best course of action. The Easy Set Small and Large Animal Traps are the safest that I've seen - there's a barrier between where I would be and the animal, so that would make me feel more secure. These traps are perfect for first time trappers such as myself, and are easy to use.

My experience with glasses

When I was in the seventh grade, I had to go get eyeglasses. I don't remember if it was because of a test the school had done, headaches, or what, but I remember distinctly that my mother made an appointment for me at a local department store that had affordable eyeglasses, but it was not a memorable experience for me.

The prescription glasses that my mother picked out for me (made me pick) were the most hideous glasses that I had ever seen. Anyone that knows me knows that I have a rosy complexion. Why my mother chose rose-tinted glasses with rose frames for me, I'll never understand. In my previous experiences, I knew it was better to say that I liked something she chose for me rather than deal with the disapproving looks and disappointment. For the whole time that I had those glasses, I hated them. The lenses were HUGE! I always felt like everyone was staring at me, and I got the classic "Four Eyes" putdowns that I think every kid who wears glasses gets.

As I've gotten older, the glasses I've chosen have been less conspicuous and flatter my face rather than make me look like a big dork. I prefer smaller lenses, with wire rims, and I think they work well for me and my face shape. I shy away from tinted lenses but recently have gotten the glasses that get darker when you go outside.

Prescription eyeglasses can be hard to find but if you look hard enough and ask your ophthalmologist for their opinion, I'm sure you can find the type of glasses that match your face, just like I have!

Rite Aid Launches Free wellness+ Customer Rewards Program Nationwide

Rite Aid Launches Free wellness+ Customer Rewards Program Nationwide

Offering Health and Wellness Benefits and Member-Only Discounts

Drugstore Industry’s Only Customer Rewards Program Focused Around Pharmacy and Wellness
Offers Immediate Everyday Benefits Including 24/7 Toll-Free Access to a Pharmacist

Customers Accrue Points with Eligible Rite Aid Pharmacy and Store Purchases
To Get Free Health Screenings and Additional Merchandise Discounts

Top Tier Members Earn 20 Percent Off Non-Prescription Regularly Priced Merchandise Every Day

CAMP HILL, PA (April 19, 2010) – Rite Aid customers and patients nationwide now can sign up for Rite Aid’s new wellness+ customer rewards program that provides members with free health and wellness benefits, as well as shopping discounts and special prices. The program will be supported by a national television, radio, circular and digital advertising campaign.

The free Rite Aid wellness+ rewards card offers immediate everyday benefits including 24/7 toll-free access to a pharmacist and 10 percent off Rite Aid brand products. Member-only discounts are listed each week in Rite Aid's weekly newspaper circulars, and there are special member-only temporary price reductions and offers on register receipts, via e-mail and online.

Members accrue points with eligible pharmacy and store purchases to get free health screenings and additional merchandise discounts including 20 percent off non-prescription regularly priced items every day. Members' wellness+ points are tracked automatically, and a tiered benefits structure combines health and wellness rewards with savings rewards.

Customers can sign up for the new Rite Aid wellness+ rewards card, which requires no membership fee, at any of Rite Aid's nearly 4,800 stores and get a card to use immediately. They also can sign up online at www.riteaid.com and print a temporary card for immediate use. A coupon for $5 off the member's next $25 purchase is available when members set up their wellness+ account online at www.riteaid.com, which allows them to manage their benefits including how many points they have accrued.

Customers also can call 1-800-RITEAID to apply for the wellness+ program, and the account will be activated in 24 hours. Once the card is activated, members can use their phone number at the store to obtain the immediate 10 percent discount on Rite Aid brand products and other special price reductions until they receive their wellness+ card in the mail.

Members receive both a wallet-sized wellness+ membership card and smaller version for their key chains. They can always use their phone number at any Rite Aid store if they forget their card.

Family members 13 years of age and older can sign up for separate wellness+ accounts if they want to accrue individual points toward the free health screenings.

One of the program’s key benefits is 24/7 toll-free access to a pharmacist, simply by calling 1-800-RITEAID. This toll-free number can be called at any time to ask simple questions about anything – medication interactions, diabetes care or even allergies, which are particularly bad right now for many people and are the focus of Rite Aid's health and wellness program in April and May.

"Our customers told us they wanted a program that offered more than just discounts. The wellness+ program
marries our customers' fiscal and physical well-being, and we reward them with both member-only shopping discounts and health and wellness benefits that increase the more they shop and the more prescriptions they fill at Rite Aid," said John Learish, Rite Aid Senior Vice President, Marketing. "We've tested this program in four markets over the last six months, and results exceeded our expectations. This is the drugstore industry’s only customer rewards program focused around pharmacy and wellness."

Members earn one point for every dollar spent on non-prescription store purchases and 25 points for every eligible prescription they fill at Rite Aid. (Prescriptions paid for in whole or in part by state or federal healthcare programs such as Medicare or Medicaid and prescriptions filled in New York and New Jersey are not eligible by law for accrual of points.)

At 125, 250 and 375 points, members will receive a one-time-use shopping pass via e-mail or mail good for
10 percent off any non-prescription regularly priced purchases.

When customers earn 500 points, they’ll receive 10 percent off all non-prescription regularly priced items every day at Rite Aid. They’ll also get a certificate for free health screenings – blood glucose and total cholesterol screenings at a local lab – and they can pick up their test results at their local Rite Aid.

When members earn 1,000 points, they’ll receive 20 percent off all non-prescription regularly priced Rite Aid purchases every day.

Program rules can be found in-store and at www.riteaid.com, including purchases that are excluded from point accrual and discounts such as cigarettes, alcohol, gift cards, online purchases, lottery tickets, licenses, money orders and transfers, prepaid cards, stamps, other mail services and items prohibited by law.

Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD) is one of the nation’s leading drugstore chains with nearly 4,800 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia with fiscal 2010 annual sales of more than $25.7 billion. Information about Rite Aid, including corporate background and press releases, is available through Rite Aid’s Web site at www.riteaid.com

She Colors My Day project

The She Colors My Day project began when a mother named Annette, dying of breast cancer, created a keepsake for the four daughters she was preparing to leave behind. Annette sent a c.d. of she and her daughters singing to her many friends and family. Unbeknown to Annette, her act of love would be the inspiration for her friend, Cristina Carlino, founder of Project Miracle, to ignite the She Colors My Day movement - a celebration of the never-ending bonds of mothers and daughters. The now worldwide She Colors My Day movement embarks upon a global journey to create for a cure. Inspired by a mother's infinite love, this ever widening circle of caring will benefit the Susan G. Komen for a Cure ® Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation's /Women's Cancer Research Group biomarker project. Hear the story in Cristina's own words here.
So how can you get involved?
  • Color With Us- We can start by taking the first steps to coloring someone else's day through a platform we all know well- Facebook.  The She Colors My Day pink crayon is a Facebook application created to be shared with those we love. The pink crayon can be virtually passed around on Facebook so we can all help to create for a cure.
  • Sing Along- The "She Colors My Day" song co-written by Cristina Carlino and Stuart Mathis for Cristina's daughter has been recorded by multi-Grammy award winner, Amy Grant. Download the "She Colors My Day Song" and video and help to support this organization. A portion of net proceeds from the song supports the She Colors My Day project, benefiting Susan G. Komen for a Cure ® Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation's/Women's Cancer Research Group.
There will be a Twitter party for this on May 10th - more details to come! For now, won't you color with me?

Review: EcoSMART Organic Bug Control

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

I'm on a quest to reduce my carbon footprint. I have been recycling cans for years, and recently started recycling plastics in the neighborhood where I live, and I've recycled paper and magazines for years also. I've also begun switching to non-toxic cleaners.

EcoSMART contacted me recently to do a review and a giveaway of their organic bug control products. I figured since I'm already making small changes (as stated above), why not go one step further and use organic items for controlling bugs and weeds?

About EcoSMART:

EcoSMART has been issued 40 U.S. patents and 55 foreign patents, with multiple applications pending. The Company has 20 product formulations that are exempt from EPA registration under the rules defined in the 1996 Food Quality Protection Act. Under these rules, EcoSMART’s EPA exempt products can make unique, explicit safety claims not allowed with traditional pesticides. These safety claims enable EcoSMART to clearly distinguish itself from conventional, synthetic products.

EcoSMART’s patented technology is based on the natural defenses that plants and trees use for their self protection against insects and pathogens – essential oils. After over a decade of research, EcoSMART had developed revolutionary and proprietary combinations of efficacious insecticidal plant oils that offer viable botanical-based alternatives to conventional pesticides.

Why EcoSMART’s Patented Botanical Products Are A Better Choice :

  • Unique and Patented Mode-of-Action
  • Unprecedented Margin of Safety
  • Extremely Effective Against a Broad Spectrum of Insect Pests
  • Cost Effective and Easy-To-Use Versus Conventional Products
  • Performance Comparable to Conventional Products
  • Perfect Fit For All IPM and “Green” Programs
  • No Known Pest Resistance Issues
  • Unique Mode-of-Action
  • Targets Insects: Not People or the Environment

The Octopamine Blocker

Octopamine is a key neurotransmitter found in invertebrates (i.e. insects). Octopamine is the insect’s equivalent to adrenaline. It regulates their heart rate, movement, behavior and metabolism. This unique molecular structure in EcoSMART Botanicals™ targets and blocks the Octopamine neurotransmitter receptors in insects. Blocking Octopamine results in a total breakdown of the insect’s central nervous system. Mammals, birds and fish do not have receptors for Octopamine, so EcoSMART Botanical Oils have no adverse effect on them. The molecular structure of the EcoSMART’s Botanical Oils target and block the Octopamine receptor site in insects.

My thoughts:

EcoSMART sent me the Safe Lawn and Outdoor Bundle which includes the following items:

Weed and Grass Killer (24 oz spray bottle)
Wasp and Hornet Killer (14 oz can)
Lawn Insect Killer (32 oz hose end)
Insect Repellent (6 oz bottle)

So far, I've used the Weed and Grass Killer, the Wasp and Hornet Killer, and the Lawn Insect Killer. I haven't gotten to use the all natural insect repellant yet, but with Football season coming up soon, I'm sure I'll be using that in no time flat!

I've use the Weed and Grass Killer in the driveway and the sidewalk to remove weeds from the cracks (you know how they always creep into those spots!), and one day I came home to find an ant infestation! They were hanging out in the kitchen like they ran the joint! I quickly went outside and sprayed the perimeter of the house with the Lawn Insect Killer, and I haven't seen any ants since! Now, the bees - oh the bees - they're the worst! We have this bush right next to the sidewalk that they love! My daughter is TERRIFIED of bees, so I figured I'd try out the spray. One evening I went out and found the nest and sprayed it up. Luckily I followed the directions (only use in early morning or late evening) or I would have gotten stung! I haven't seen those buggers around since either!

I'm impressed with these products - how well they work and the lack of chemical smell! I hope the Insect Repellant works as well as the rest of the products I tried!

Be sure to check out the EcoSMART blog, where they have an Everyday Giveaway that you can win just by commenting on an article!

Review and Giveaway: Smelly Washer

I'm sure that if you're a mom like me, you've had your fair share of mildewed clothes and towels! It seems that kids just don't get it when you tell them what happens when they leave wet clothes lying around, right?

It really bugs me when I go to use a towel and it smells like mildew! It gets in my hair and seems to stick to my body!

That's why I was glad when Smelly Washer asked me to do a review of their all-natural product. I know that all of my towels are not white, so I can't always bleach my towels to get rid of the smell!

Angie Marion Interview at Murray Newlands

Sunday, April 18, 2010

I should have posted about this a LONG time ago, but I didn't. Gee, what was I thinking?! As someone who is reading about SEO and studying it, I should have done so! *kicks self!*

Back in December, I was interviewed by Connie Foggles, a product review writer, who works with Murray Newlands. Murray Newlands is a marketing blog, who also helps with Social Media Marketing and Blogger Outreach.

I invite you to read my interview: Angie Marion - A Simple Kinda Life Blogger Interview.

Enjoy!

Tiny Prints Greetings Makes it Easier than Ever to Be Thoughtful

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA —April 12, 2010—Tiny Prints (www.tinyprints.com), a leading online retailer of premium, personalized stationery, announces today that it is expanding its highly successful product and service line with the launch of Tiny Prints Greetings, a new line of stylish printed greeting cards users can personalize, schedule and send online. The new service combines the power of Tiny Prints proprietary web technology with the trendsetting design sensibility the brand has always delivered.

Tiny Prints Greetings seeks to preserve and enhance the delight of sending and receiving greeting cards in the mail by revolutionizing the age-old practice with modern technology. Key benefits of the new service include:

§  Personalized Greeting Cards: Users will find the vast selection of stylish and creative designs that they have come to expect from Tiny Prints, only now they can also match their favorite designs with one of the thousands of verses from a library of options. Plus, since every aspect of a card can be personalized, users have the option to easily include a recipient’s name, edit the verse and upload photos to truly personalize their cards to express their exact sentiments. As a result, no two Tiny Prints cards will ever look exactly the same.

§  A Better Way to Shop:  Not only can users easily personalize their cards online, they can address the envelope, add a stamp and pay for the card with just a few clicks. Customers have the option of sending cards to themselves to sign or save even more time by having Tiny Prints mail their cards directly to recipients. The end-to-end process can be completed in minutes, and all cards can ship within 24 hours.

§  Enhanced Convenience: For those who wish to avoid a mad dash to the store right before a special occasion, the service even allows users to set up automatic event reminders for birthdays, Mother’s Day, anniversaries and other occasions. Users can even schedule a queue of personalized greeting cards to be sent automatically up to a year in advance.

“The innovation made possible by Tiny Prints Greetings will help us further realize our vision of enhancing intimate human connections through the tradition of sending paper greetings,” said Ed Han, CEO of Tiny Prints. “By combining our design strength with user-friendly web technology, we hope to make sending greeting cards much more thoughtful and less time consuming for the next generation.”

For this convenient service with a personalized touch, users can pay per greeting card or sign up for a membership plan to enjoy special pricing on every card they send, starting as low as $1.99 each. As an added bonus for the launch, the company is waiving the first year's membership fee and offering the first three greeting cards absolutely free of charge when customers sign up.

The Twilight Series

Awhile back, when I was shopping at TJ Maxx with the boyfriend, I stumbled on a great find. (as I always do!) I'd say this was about a year ago.

The Twilight Saga Collection

The whole The Twilight Saga Collection (hardcover!!) for $60! Back then, I don't know how much it cost for real but I see that it's around $45 at Amazon.com. Either way, I've had it for almost a year, seen two of the movies, but never cracked open any of the books!

Shame! Shame!!

I did finally start reading Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1) this week and am almost through it, then I'll move on to New Moon, and on down the line.

I've always been a reader, and I love to read the books before I see the movie, because the movies just leave out so much! I'm loving Twilight but I'm also glad that I had an image in my head to work with already, since I have seen the movies - ya know?

How about you? Have you read any of the Twilight books, and if so, how many?
