Wordless Wednesday: My one and only son

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

See this photo? It was taken back in 1997, when my son was about 8 months old. He used to love sticking out his tongue and kept sticking his tongue out while the photographer was taking his picture, so I finally just told them to go ahead and take it! It was so cute anyway, and the pic turned out great! What do you think?

Link up your Wordless Wednesday post so we all can see!

Giveaway: YoBaby 3-in-1 Meals

As an avid yogurt lover, when I was contacted by Stonyfield Farms to do a giveaway for YoBaby 3-in-1 Meals, I was thrilled.

About YoBaby 3-in-1 Meals:

YoBaby Meals offer a unique 3-in-1 combination of protein-packed yogurt + fruit + veggie purée in one cup. They’re an easy, delicious and surprising way to help moms give their babies and toddlers a trio of important food groups at every meal.

Three delicious flavors -- Pear & Green Bean, Peach & Squash, Apple & Sweet Potato – are just right for baby’s growing appetite. And the single serve 6-ounce cup offers 50% more than current 4-ounce YoBaby multipacks.

One mom-tester was amazed at the great taste of these unique combinations – and babies and toddlers agreed!

YoBaby Meals are convenient nutrition, providing more than 35% of a toddler’s daily protein and calcium needs in one grab-n-go cup. And this is an easy way to get veggies!

YoBaby Organic Meals hit natural food store shelves nationwide July 1 and select grocery chains. Suggested retail price is $1.29 for a single 6-ounce serving.

"We know getting balanced nutrition for your baby or toddler isn’t easy, since Mom’s hectic life and a picky baby or toddler can add up to one big challenge," says Stonyfield Farm President and CE-Yo Gary Hirshberg. "So we’ve combined the YoBaby yogurt your child loves with a unique mix of tastes. They’ll love it!"

YoBaby Organic Meals join the YoBaby line of organic yogurts available in a wide range of varieties and flavors, and now including Vitamin D and Zinc. They include YoBaby original, in six variety packs; YoBaby Plus Fruit & Cereal with DHA; YoBaby Plus Fruit & Cereal with Iron; YoBaby Simply Plain, "Baby's First Yogurt;" and YoBaby Drinkables. Visit www.yobabyyogurt.com to learn more.

About Stonyfield Farm

MckLinky Blog Hop: Three things every parent should teach their kids

My kids at the National Aquarium at Baltimore Spring 2009

This week's MckLinky blog hop is "Three things every parent should teach their kids". Since I'm a mom, you know I have to chime in with my two cents!

1. Respect for elders and for themselves - Respect is a very hard thing to teach, and sometimes people don't deserve to be respected, but as a child, I was taught to treat all adults with respect and I expect the same from my children. As for respecting themselves, this means to not let anyone walk all over them, and to not let anyone do things to them they know are wrong.

2. Humility - One of the best traits one can have is humility. Even if you think you're the bomb, be humble!

3. Honor - Always stand up for what you believe in.

What are the three things you think parents should teach their children?

Review: Sabra Hummus

Monday, September 28, 2009

Before the opportunity that I got to try Sabra Hummus, I've never tried it nor did I know what it was!

About Sabra Hummus:

More Americans are going Mediterranean, thanks to our delicious line of dips, appetizers and spreads. Our gourmet products are perfect for lunch, a tasty snack or entertaining family and friends. Beautifully packaged and prepared with only the freshest ingredients, our products deliver the flavor of authentic Mediterranean recipes.

Not only are our products delicious, they are also nutritious. Our products offer all of the taste and health benefits of foods found in the Mediterranean diet and contain no trans fat or cholesterol. We ship our line of more than 26 Mediterranean spreads and dips nationwide, including our new, award-winning Sabra "To Go" - individual servings of hummus and dips complete with crunchy Pretzel Crisps.

On behalf of Buzz Cooperative, I was sent a coupon to try out Sabra Hummus. Being the total garlic lover that I am, I chose the Garlic hummus. I was happy that they had garlic flavor too, since I had to search five stores for this brand!

I always thought hummus sounded funny, and I'm a picky eater. So I searched for hummus on the internet and found out that it's just mashed chickpeas, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic! That made me a little happier, but I was still a little apprehensive.

I must admit, the flavor of hummus, especially this kind, blew me away! I was completely caught off guard! I think I've found another, more healthy, dip for my tortilla chips! I'll be sure to find the other flavors, especially the Red Pepper flavor, which the kids and I will enjoy together, I'm sure!

Be sure to follow Sabra on Twitter at @sabra.

Thanks to Buzz Cooperative and Sabra Hummus for this review opportunity!

Review: The Shandle

Recently, we were given the opportunity to try out The Shandle. As a mom of 3, who is fully aware of germs and all of the places they like to hide (in plain sight!), I just knew that we needed this product in our home!

About The Shandle:

The Shandle is a utility product that encourages children to "wash their hands after going to the bathroom". The product, containing an anti-microbial handle, sticks to the toilet seat and has playful designs and messages that remind children about good hygiene in addition to preventing children from ever having to touch the germ filled toilet seat. The perfect message to children to aid in the fight against the H1N1 Virus. It's available exclusively through their web store: www.theshandle.com

It was easy to install The Shandle. My daughter and I thoroughly cleaned the toilet, then dried it, and I peeled off the red tape protecting the sticky part of The Shandle, and I firmly pressed it onto the toilet seat for 30 seconds. After that, we waited the 24 hours and we were ready to use The Shandle!

Ever since we've had The Shandle in our home, it's been a reminder to the kids to wash their hands and protect themselves from germs. With the recent outbreak of H1N1, I'm ecstatic that we have a product in our home that reminds my children to wash their hands! It's even better that they can use The Shandle to protect themselves from the germs that are already on the toilet!

I personally love the simplicity of this product, as well as the gentle reminder. I recommend this product to anyone with any children of any age in their household!

This post was written as part of a program for Family Review Network and The Shandle who provided the product for review.

* break up with an Aquarius.
* express affection to a Pisces.

And much, much more!

Make Astrology Work for You

With nearly 2 million books in print, The Secret Language of Birthdays and The Secret Language of Relationships established Gary Goldschneider's reputation as one of the world's foremost and influential astrologers.

Now Goldschneider brings readers his most ambitious book yet: Everyday Astrology. A complete guide to understanding and improving every relationship in your life, Everyday Astrology features detailed and comprehensive advice for interacting with people of every sun sign.

Author Bio

Gary Goldschneider, author of Everyday Astrology, is an astrologer and the author of several best-selling books, including The Secret Language of Birthdays, The Secret Language of Relationships, and The Secret Language of Destiny. He has studied astrology for forty years and frequently lectures and writes on the subject. An accomplished pianist and composer, he has performed in concerts and recitals worldwide. He lives in Amsterdam, where he writes a regular astrology column for AvantGarde magazine. Visit him on the Web at mypersonology.com and goldschneider.com.

My thoughts:

I've always believed in Astrology and read my horoscope daily. Immediately after receiving this book, I flipped to the Cancer section, which is my Astrological sign. I then flipped to the Aries section, which is my boyfriend's. I read some things to him about both of our signs, which he scoffed at, but I informed him that there's too much out there to NOT believe in Astrology. Most of the characteristics of the signs are accurate, even though your horoscope may not be.

This is one book I will refer back to over and over again, I'm sure. If you enjoy reading about astrology, go to Chronicle Books to order the book, or buy it at Amazon.com.

Hallmark’s "Edge of Motherhood" Tweet-a-Day Giveaway!

There’s no doubt about it: motherhood is a magical and rewarding experience, and our children bring us more joy than we thought possible. But motherhood certainly has its moments. We’ve all been there — sleepless nights, sibling warfare, teen angst… a trail of dog poop tracked through the house on your toddler’s shoe. Through it all, moms persevere…with a little encouragement and a lot of humor.

And to help with exactly that, Hallmark has introduced a new line of humorous encouragement cards just for moms called "Edge of Motherhood," a fresh look at some of the things moms experience daily. (Check out some of the cards on Hallmark.com here.)

But wait, there’s more! Now through the end of September, Hallmark will be giving away FREE packs of these new, edgy humor cards along with a $25 Hallmark Gold Crown gift card through Hallmark’s "Edge of Motherhood" Tweet-a-Day Giveaway!

To enter, follow the "Edge of Motherhood" card writers on Twitter (@HallmarkEdge) where you’ll see an announcement of each day’s giveaway opportunity at 9:00 a.m. CST. Once you see the announcement, tweet about or post a twitpic capturing your most outrageous motherhood moments. And don’t forget to use the #hallmarkmom hashtag with each tweet!

The mom who has shared the funniest tweet or twitpic (as determined by card writers from the "Edge of Motherhood" line) by 4:00 p.m. CST each day will win a pack of "Edge of Motherhood" cards and a $25 gift card. Easy as that!

Do you have the funniest, most memorable, or most outrageous moment ‘from the edge’?

Have fun and good luck!

Strong as Steel: Bring generations together in the kitchen

Sure, you may not have known that your kitchen could get you in great shape, but maybe you know this one: How many seniors does it take to change a light bulb? It only takes one! But, it can be a lot more rewarding if it takes two - a senior and a youth, an oldie and a newbie, an acorn and an oak...

Intergenerational activities increase cooperation, interaction and exchange between people of different generations, according to Generations United- an organization that began in 1986 and is the country’s only membership organization promoting intergenerational public policies, strategies and programs, www.gu.org

According to the EPA, these activities can prevent unnatural age segregation and apply the strengths of one generation to meet the needs of another. For youth and children, these activities can enhance social skills, improve academic performance, decrease drug use and increase stability. For older adults, these activities can enhance socialization, stimulate learning, increase emotional support and improve health.
www.epa.gov/aging/ia/benefits.htm

And when the two generations team up to help the environment, it’s a win for everyone!

Check out this cool video:

Be sure to enter to win a GE Appliance right here on my blog! You can enter daily! Watch for my tweets because I'm tweeting out reminders multiple times during the day!

Frigidaire SpokesMom Official Announcement

Frigidaire just announced a celebrity ambassador!

Jennifer Garner! (What a great choice, huh?)

This afternoon Jennifer will introduce Frigidaire’s new line of appliances, designed with features that help us Moms save time in our busy schedules, and challenge us to pledge a bit of our own time to help children in need. Frigidaire’s new "Make Time for CHANGE" campaign supports Save the Children’s U.S. Programs, dedicated to making a difference in children’s lives.

Frigidaire and Garner are asking Moms to think ahead to November 1st – the day all of us change the clocks and get an extra hour – and pledge to use that time to help make a difference in the lives of children. Save the Children created the CHANGE program (Creating Healthy, Active, and Nurturing Growing-up Environments) to promote healthier lifestyles for children living in poverty by providing nutritious snacks and regular opportunities for them to be physically active.

Starting today, everyone who goes to Frigidaire.com and raises her hand with a pledge to make time for a child, will commit Frigidaire to donate $1 to support the CHANGE. As an added bonus, everyone who pledges her time will be entered for a chance to win a new Frigidaire Professional double wall oven.

Mom Central also has a Frigidaire Professional double wall oven to give away to a member of their Mom Central Community!*

To enter to win, simply go to http://www.momcentral.com/reviews/frigidaire-giveaway-and-celebrity-ambassador.html and tell us about your pledge and how you would give back your time to children in need. Mom Central will pick one lucky winner in a random drawing from all entries received!

Will you pledge?

I plan on pledging! My pledge would be to volunteer at the local women's shelter (where I lived about 10 years ago!) as a care provider while the residents have one of their meetings. I've always wanted to give back to the shelter for all they have done for me, but don't have the time!

So, what's your pledge? Head over to Mom Central to enter your pledge and possibly win!

*All taxes, including but not limited to federal, state and local taxes, and any other costs and expenses associated with prize acceptance are the sole responsibility of the winner, including any costs of installation.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Frigidaire and received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Vote for me: 2010 Faces of e.l.f.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Like all little girls, I wanted to be a model, an actress, somebody famous. Then I got older and that changed to a lawyer. Yeah, I could lie with the best of 'em. Just ask my mom.

Today I happened upon a contest. A contest that would make me oh so happy. And maybe a little famous.

Do I think I'm the hottest girl around? No. But I know I'm hot. (Hell, if you don't believe it, no one will!) I'd love to win this so I could stop working full time and maybe just work part time. I'd like to be able to homeschool my kids so we wouldn't have so many issues with idiots, I mean, racists and ignorant people.

Do me a favor, my friends. Vote for me as a 2010 Faces of e.l.f. contestant. If you do, you can add three entries to every giveaway I'm currently holding (and I just posted a few).

You can vote for me daily.

PLEASE.

Review and Giveaway: Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters

Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters are a bite size blend of 100% natural ingredients that include select roasted nuts, whole grain oats and a touch of honey - a wholesome and delicious pick-me-up any time of the day. If you love nuts, you´ll enjoy this flavorful little snack featuring the perfect combination of sweet & salty flavors paired with a crunchy texture that you can see and taste. And with the first unique cluster-shaped granola packaged in a handy re-sealable pouch, it´s perfect for sharing on the trails or in your living room!

New Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters come in four easy-to-crave flavors: Nut Lovers, Roasted Almond, Roasted Cashew and Honey Roasted Peanut.

My thoughts:

I'm not really a nut person but I LOVE granola! I tend to only stick to peanuts and just recently started liking cashews. But - I LOVED these! (My kids have even stolen a bag of these from me!)

I have to be honest though - I've only tried the Nut Lovers and the Honey Roasted Peanut, which is my absolute fave! They are both delish!

If you like granola and/or nuts, I'm sure you'll like Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters. Yum!

Win It!

One lucky winner will win the items in the above photo. (The stainless steel bottle is awesome! It keeps drinks cold for ages!!!)
