Review and Giveaway: TutorMatch.com

Monday, March 30, 2009

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED AS OF 5/4/09

Today I bring to you an excellent website with a phenomenal service. Tutor Match.com

From their site:

TutorMatch is the oldest tutor referral network on the internet -- we've been providing parents and students with free local tutor searches since 1996. We have local tutors in thousands of cities across every state in the country, and we also offer online tutor services as well.

Here's how it works:

Tutors - which can be work at home moms and dads, teachers, or just about anybody willing to work with students - can sign up to list their profile on TutorMatch.com. And it's completely safe! TutorMatch only lists the user's profile and protects their identity.

Parents and students can then search for either local tutors near them or online tutors anywhere in the world, for free. The tutor's last names and contact info are anonymous, and parents nor the students have to sign up or enter any personal info to use this service! That for me is ideal! When you find a tutor you would like to interview, only then is personal information entered into the system.

Parents and students are free and welcome to interview and contact as many tutors as they want. Think of their service at TutorMatch as a big phone book for tutors.

If you are a tutor seeking some kids to tutor, all you have to do is a simple search for one! If you want to sign up to tutor, that's easy too!

I did a search for some tutors in my area and I located 22 tutors! Wow! That's a good amount! I honestly didn't expect to see that many! I live in a highly populated area, but I just didn't expect that many people to know about TutorMatch! I am pleasantly surprised!

TutorMatch also has a blog, Homework Help Today, and if anyone is interested in having their blog or website reviewed, let me know. If it's of interest to parents, students, or teachers, they would love to publish it!

Now... On to the Giveaway...

Ahh... Relaxation...

You know how it is. You've had a long day. You come home to "Mom!", "Mom!", every other minute - or so it seems.

Cook dinner, clean up necessary items, make sure homework is done, help with it if necessary, eat dinner, and then clean it up too.

Then hear the 12 year old's mouth. If it was me growing up, I would have gotten my teeth knocked out! Then my 10 year old

won't.

shut.

up.

Shew... I just cleaned up dinner and had them go to bed, and I came in here to blog and connect with people, and play some Mafia Wars, oh and listen to the DVR-ed Y&R from today. I didn't get enough sleep last night, I almost woke up late, it was a rough Monday... Need I say more?

I get up at 4:30 am to get out the door by 5:30, and be at work by 6:30, and I work a long ten-hour day with 42 men and 2 other women (which is another blog post in itself!) and I'm...

tired...

Quiet Time Pictures, Images and Photos

I belong there.

I know I'm not alone in this... Share your relaxation techniques and the way you unwind after a long day.

Tap Project

I wanted to alert you to a cause that I think needs more recognition! Tap Project, which I learned about by belonging to The Momlogic Community.

Please join the Tap Project Group on ML and spread the word!

While you're at the Tap Project's website, be sure to Search for a participating restaurant in your area, or you can donate, or volunteer!

What is the Tap Project?

In 2007, the Tap Project was born in New York City based on a simple concept: restaurants would ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free, and all funds raised would support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.

Growing from just 300 New York City restaurants in 2007 to over 2,300 across the country in 2008, the Tap Project has quickly grown into a national movement. Restaurants, corporations, volunteers, advertising agencies, community groups, local governments and everyday diners participated to save millions of children’s lives.

During World Water Week, March 22-28, 2009, the Tap Project will once again raise vital donations and awareness for UNICEF’s water and sanitation programs. For every dollar raised, a child will have clean drinking water for 40 days. All funds raised support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.

World Water Day

In 1992 the United Nations General Assembly declared March 22nd of each year as World Water Day. Countries are invited to devote the day to the conservation and development of water resources. As a result, conferences, round tables, seminars and exhibitions are held worldwide to promote public awareness of this global issue.

In 2007, a grassroots initiative called the Tap Project was created, which helps UNICEF provide clean water to children around the world. What started as a pilot effort in New York City has now become an internationally recognized fundraising program that operates in all 50 states. And, in years to follow, the Tap Project will be an international resource of donations for UNICEF and World Water Day.

In 2009, the UN World Water Day theme is "Shared Water–Shared Opportunities." Special focus will be placed on transboundary waters. This year on World Water Day, we call attention to the waters that cross borders and link us together. Whether we live upstream or downstream, we are all in the same boat.

Review & Giveaway: Glade Sense & Spray

I had won one of these from A Wrestling Addicted Mommy, received one to review courtesy of BzzAgent, and before I got both of these, I bought one for an unbelievably low price at Walgreen's. So I have decided to give one away. Read on for more info on how to win.

My Review:

When I first decided to buy one, because I love things that make my house smell good, I couldn't wait for my prize to arrive! I had a coupon and I caught it on sale at Walgreen's, so I'm not sure how much I paid for it but I know it was cheap. I decided to get the Fresh Linen scent because I love that smell! It reminds me of fresh laundry. Gotta love that smell!

When I got the package, I read the directions, and quickly opened it up. First of all, I was THRILLED that it came with a battery! We love anything that saves us money, right moms?!

After I inserted the batteries, I inserted the little spray container, and snapped the lid closed... that was it! Simple, easy set up - who doesn't love that?!

The directions tell you not to place it in an area that is too dark, away from a direct source of light, and at least 5 feet away from anything so that it will not spray anything. You also don't want to block the sensor with any objects.

The best part about this item is that you can push the Boost button to automatically freshen if you like! Another great feature: the unit enters a 30-minute "lockout" mode after sensing movement and spraying. This means no wasted fragrance! The fragrance refills last about 30 days!

In my house, our bathroom has no window, so putting this item there is not an option. I put ours in the living room, which generates a good deal of traffic. The new one I received yesterday from A Wrestling Addicted Mommy and Family Review Network I'm going to put in our hallway so that all of us can enjoy the scent!

The smell of this unit is wonderful and wafts through the whole downstairs of my townhouse. This means when I'm cooking in the kitchen, I can still enjoy the scent. I love that! It also lasts a good amount of time. I'm not sure how long exactly but
it's awhile!

Do you want to win a Clean Linen Scent Sense and Spray?! Here's how:

*Go to the Glade site and tell me in comments another product you'd like to try 1 entry

*Remember if this rule is not followed, all entries are void.

For extra entries you can do any or all of the following:

Review: Ballas Hough Band - BHB

Monday, March 23, 2009

First off, let me begin by saying I'm a R&B/Hip Hop-Loving lady! I do like some Pop and Rock but typically not boy bands! I have also been known to get down to some Fleetwood Mac now and then! But boy bands? Nah... Not Angie. That being said, I never expected to be reviewing a CD for the Ballas Hough Band. Matter of fact, before this project, I probably couldn't tell you who they were. (I do know who Julianna Hough is though!)

You do know who The Ballas Hough Band boys are - don't you?! You know, Derek Hough, who won the most recent Dancing with the Stars (DWTS), and Mark Ballas, who won last season? Yeah... that's them.

I guess now is a good time to admit that I also don't watch Dancing with the Stars. It's just not my thing. shhh...don't tell anyone!

Or it was not my thing.

I gave up on Reality Shows (unless they're on HGTV) way back after the 1st season of Survivor ended. They just started getting on my nerves.

So when One 2 One Network sent me this CD to review, I didn't expect much.

Boy, was I wrong! The lyrics of the songs on this CD, combined with the music - BRAVO! I especially liked "Do It For You" (which was co-written by new "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi), and "Breakthrough". Even "She Was the One" had me reminiscing!

Add to it that the boys are quite handsome, and you have yourselves a winning group!

I've friended them on MySpace, Fan-ed them on Facebook, and now I'm sharing them with you. (But you have to give them back!)

Here's the Track Listing for BHB:

Do You Love Me
Devastated
Closer
She Was The One
Longing For
Birthday
Fall
Do It For You
Breakthrough
Together Faraway
Underwater

Some Tour Dates they have Planned are outlined below:

Jan. 28 Raleigh, NC Lincoln Theatre

Jan. 29 Washington, DC Rock and Roll Hotel

Jan. 31 Uncasville, CT Mohegan Sun Wolf Den

Feb. 2 Providence, RI Lupos Hearbreak

Feb. 4 Farmingdale, NY Crazy Donkey

Feb. 6 Teaneck, NJ Mexicali Live

Feb. 8 Philadelphia, PA World Café Live

Feb. 15 Los Angeles, CA Roxy

More dates to be announced.

These are the members of the Band:

Mark Ballas (guitar/vocals)

Derek Hough (guitar/vocals)

Emily Grace (keyboard/vocals)

Sam Marder (bass)

Harry Sullivan (drums)

Be sure to check out Their Official Website.

Also - head over to Amazon to preview songs off of their album or to buy it!

I promise you won't be disappointed, just like I wasn't!

Thank you One 2 One Network for letting me learn about a different band!

JOHNSON'S® Baby YouTube Channel Contest

JOHNSON'S® has created a new way for moms and dads to not only bond with their little ones, but also win $10,000.

Earlier this year the brand put out a new product called JOHNSON'S® Baby Bubble Bath & Wash - safe for both boys and girls. As part of the launch, JOHNSON'S® is reaching out to online moms to enter a contest searching for the hosts of its YouTube Baby Channel.

How do I enter?

Parents, with children under the age of six, just need to upload an under three-minute video that features tips to enhance a child's bath time experience. The grand prize winner will be awarded $10,000 to start a college fund, and the top 3 will have the opportunity to be selected as the new hosts of the JOHNSON'S® Baby YouTube channel. JOHNSON'S® execs and actress (and mom of three) Angie Harmon have the honor of selecting the finalists.

Grab your camcorder or look through your favorite family videos to enter now! Submissions end on April 16. For more rules and regulations - or to upload your video - go to www.youtube.com/baby.

Thanks MomCentral for making me aware of this contest so I can share it with my readers!

Pillsbury 44th Bake-off Contest

At the 43rd Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest in 2008, Carolyn Gurtz walked away with the million-dollar grand prize for her Double-Delight Peanut Butter Cookies! This wife, mother and grandmother with a passion for baking was introduced to cooking at age seven and she hasn't stopped since then. One contest judge stated that Carolyn's recipe was "a new twist on an old classic." Other judges called out its simplicity and approachability and described it as a delightful taste that combines two classic cookies - a snickerdoodle and a peanut butter cookie.

Anna Ginsberg, a stay-at-home mom who you might know from her blog, Cookie Madness, earned the $1 million prize for her Baked Chicken and Spinach Stuffing in the 42nd Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest. At the 2004 competition, the 41st Contest, former librarian wrote her own page in history by capturing the top prize with her Oats 'n Honey Granola Pie recipe. Inspired by pecan pie, Conrad adapted a family-favorite pie and caught the judges' attention with its wonderful flavor and simple preparation.

All it takes is one easy and delicious recipe idea, so we hope you let your readers, friends and family know that it's time to get creative in the kitchen for their chance at a million! One hundred finalists will win a trip to the finals, April 11 - 13, 2010, at the Waldorf-Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek hotel in Florida. Pillsbury is looking for original recipes that taste and look delicious, are easy to prepare and that families across America will love to eat. There are four recipe categories - Breakfast & Brunches, Entertaining Appetizers, Dinner Made Easy and Sweet Treats.

Entries are being accepted online between now and April 20th, 2009, at www.bakeoff.com. You'll also find contest details, including eligible products, prizes and the official rules, at the web site.

Check out this video featuring former grand prize winner Carolyn Gurtz and hear from the Pillsbury Bake-Off Kitchens Manager too!

Happy 10th Birthday, Baby Girl!

Today my youngest child was born. Hard to believe... but yes, it's true.

Happy 10th Birthday, Baby Girl!

Here's a photo of Baby Girl and I last winter. (I really have to upload some recent photos!)

She's such a sweet girl. She has ADHD but that doesn't stop her from being a caring, loving, and smart little girl. I'm so happy to have been blessed with her in my life!

We'll celebrate by going to Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus on Wednesday, then a low-key celebration (just family) at home this weekend.

I love you, baby girl! Many more!

Maryland Alcohol Consumers - This Smoker Has No Pity

Monday, March 16, 2009

I just saw a piece on my local Fox news that made me pick up my mobile phone to hurry and write this post.

Maryland lawmakers are talking about raising the alcohol tax. Big whoop. it hasn't been raised since Eisenhower was in office!

I'm a smoker. I started out paying about $2 per pack, about 14 years ago. Now I pay (sometimes $5.50) a pack. Whose fault? MINE!

I don't care if they tax liquor more. Would you like to know why? I'm sure if you did the comparison, cirrhosis and cancers caused by smoking are probably equally as deadly.

Another reason? Some people can't hold their alcohol. I don't drink often (literally, a couple of times a year) and for good reason: drama! Alcohol brings the drama!

How about one more reason? Let's check out some more statistics to find out how many Domestic Abuse victims are at the hands of their alcoholic partners. (Been there, done that.)

So I say raise the liquor tax. Heck, it's been 51 YEARS! (How's that for discrimination smokers?) Cardin, Mikulski, hell, I'll even address the Governor on this one! Governor O'Malley, tax the HECK out of the drinkers like you have done us smokers! I vote yes!

Maybe it will help with our HUGE deficit! Balance those books! and leave smokers alone for once

To be continued...
