Review and Giveaway: Money Savvy Pig

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Do your kids constantly come to you for money? They come asking for a raise in their allowance, money for the movies, etc. I go through it too! My son is 13 now and it's the cool thing to do to meet up with his friends and see a movie. He doesn't take into consideration how much it actually costs me (almost $20 between the ticket, popcorn, and a drink).

Enter the Money Savvy Pig, which has four separate slots: one for saving, one for spending, one for donating, and one for investing. The Money Savvy Pig, created by Susan Beacham (a mom herself!) helps them gain control (and understand more about money) of their spending habits. There are even goal setting stickers, which allow parents to discuss the child's choice of how they spend the money, as well as implications of what they're spending, and values, for each child.

The bottom line is this: if your child thinks money grows on trees and you are the National Bank of Them, by giving them an allowance and sticking to it, they will learn how to better manage their money, and realize when they squander it away unnecessarily. It certainly has made a change in our house! I'll definitely be getting one for my 10-year-old daughter soon!

Win It!
