I received this email from PETA just a few minutes ago, and I wanted to share this with my readers. I do eat meat but I agree with alot of the issues that PETA stands for. Who knows? One day I might even become a vegetarian!
If you're so inclined, there is a link contained in this post where you can sign the online petition and send it to the head of the Maryland DNR.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reportedly accusing mute swans living in the Chesapeake Bay of destroying underwater vegetation. The Maryland DNR has therefore allegedly decided to kill these birds. However, mute swans have little effect on the loss of aquatic vegetation in the bay compared to the devastation caused by boats and the pollutants dumped by factory farms and sewage treatment plants.
Since 2003, the DNR has reportedly killed approximately 3,100 mute swans, leaving a population of only about 500 of these animals in the Chesapeake Bay. To kill the animals, DNR workers reportedly chase down these birds, who are temporarily flightless because of summer feather loss, and crush the animals' necks with a bolt cutter-like implement!
The mute swans of Chesapeake Bay are counting on you! Please visit our advocacy campaign to find out how you can help stop the cruel slaughter of these swans. Thank you for your willingness to act and for your compassion for animals.
